Strong Breaks School Record
By Matthew Stefanski
On Wednesday, an influx of phone calls was fielded by VCA Athletic Director, Derek Chirch. Basketball coaches from universities such as Palm Beach Atlantic University, and University of Chattanooga inquired about senior Leventes “Lee” Strong and his plans for the future.
On Tuesday night, the varsity boys basketball team brought a win home after they faced the Mishawaka Christian Athletic Club (MCAC) Wildcats. Despite being down a starter due to sickness, the Lions managed to defeat the Wildcats 86-65.
Senior Lee Strong scored a whopping 54 points, accompanied by 16 points each from senior Evan Longhi and sophomore Calvin Reisinger. “It was a fast-paced, competitive game,” said Chirch. “Lee did a good job at attacking the basket. The game was close enough where we could still justify keeping him in.”
In addition to achieving a personal career high, Strong beat VCA’s all-time scoring record. Chirch posted the game’s score on MaxPreps, which trigged phone calls from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I universities such as Virginia Tech University.
Strong will soon have to make one of the most important decisions in his life. “Lee should remember to work on academics and make his spiritual life a priority. He needs to pick the school that is the best fit for him,” said Chirch.
